President William Ruto has emphasised Kenya's commitment to Haiti's long-term recovery and stability.

Ruto made the commitment in an address at the United Nations Headquarters on September 23.

He also emphasized two critical actions necessary to secure Haiti’s future.

"First, the UN Security Council must renew the Multinational Security Support  (MSS) Mission mandate to ensure continued progress toward lasting security for the Haitian people," Ruto said.

Ruto also said innovative ways to resource the mission should be explored.

"Second, there should be intensified international support in the form of funds, equipment, and logistics," he said.

He urged the global community, particularly key partners like the United States and Canada, to continue backing these efforts.

Ruto also shared his optimism for the country’s future.

"Just two days ago, I visited Port-au-Prince and engaged with Haitian political leaders and the Multinational Security Support Mission personnel. I left with renewed hope," Ruto stated, speaking on the progress he witnessed firsthand.

In his opening remarks,  Ruto expressed his gratitude to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for extending the invitation to participate in the crucial Leader Level Meeting of the ECOSOC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti.

He highlighted the remarkable improvements the MSS had achieved within just 100 days of deployment.

"We’ve seen the reopening of the airport, the resumption of flights, and the retaking of Port-au-Prince’s main hospital—reviving economic activity and hope," he said.

However, Ruto pointed out that despite these early successes, much remains to be done.

In his address, Ruto praised the leadership of Haiti, particularly Prime Minister Garry Conille, for the strides made in socio-economic transformation.

"The Haitian people and leadership are united in their determination to break from the past and chart a new future for their country," Ruto said.

This unity, he said, will be the foundation upon which Haiti’s future will be built.

He concluded his remarks by reaffirming Kenya’s unwavering commitment to Haiti’s recovery, stressing that Kenya stands in solidarity with the Haitian people as they strive for peace and prosperity.

"You can count on Kenya’s unwavering solidarity as we work together to restore peace and prosperity to Haiti," he pledged.
