UDA party acting Secretary General Hassan Omar has announced plans to expel Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the party.

Omar who was responding to the planned bid to impeach Gachagua stated that as a party they will go by what the majority feel is a decision that is in the best interests of the party and the country at large.

Speaking in Mombasa on Saturday, Omar said if most of the party members are in support of the impeachment then as a party it will rally behind them.

"In fact, if that motion of impeachment sails through, our immediate concern then will be to eject him also as a member of the party," he said.

"You cannot be found to be incompetent, grossly undermining the Constitution and national unity and continue to be a ranking member of the party," Omar said.

Gachagua doubles up as the UDA deputy party leader.

Omar supported the MPs in their push saying there are sufficient grounds to kick out Gachagua from the position.

He claimed Gachagua has constantly propagated the gospel of ethnicity, division, seclusion and that which tries to incite one group against another.

"He has been the most prominent voice in terms of dealing a decisive blow to the unity of this country that had been closely-knit by the hustler nation," he stated.

"Hustler nation policy was about bottom-up agenda, not one region or individuals, we cannot continue to have a deputy president who is a threat to national unity," he remarked.

UDA National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi echoed the sentiment saying the conduct of the DP has become a matter of concern to all Kenyans.

Nyakundi said Gachagua appears to be so tribal that he does want to engage people from other regions.

The Kitutu Chache MP stated if the grounds are sustainable they will not hesitate to impeach him.

"He says he is a murima (mountain) person and fo us we want someone who is a symbol of national unity who will be visiting other regions and hear the problems of other regions," he said.

"If Gachagua doesn't want to visit Nyanza, Coast and regions we will look for someone else," he added.

Omar and Nyakundi were in the county for the Comrades Chapter Town Hall held at the Kenya School of Government.

It brings together students from different universities and colleges.

The party has lined up a series of similar meetings across the country to engage and listen to the needs of the comrades and the youths in general.

Labour Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime was also present.

The chapter is designed to create a dynamic platform for students and young professionals to engage in political discourse, advocate for social economic development, and understand government policies, programmes, and projects.
