Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has reaffirmed his intention to
contest for the Nairobi governor seat in the 2027 elections.
The three-term ODM MP is positioning himself as a leader
capable of addressing Nairobi’s growing challenges and delivering inclusive
governance.
“I wanted to be the governor of Nairobi in 2022 but was told
to wait. This time, nobody will tell us to wait,” he stated.
Wanyonyi emphasised that his ambition for Nairobi’s top job
is stronger than ever.
“My journey to City Hall 2027 is still on. I expect
Westlands to give me 100 per cent of the vote,” he stated,
underscoring his deep connection with his constituency and his expectation of
full support.
During the 2022 elections, Wanyonyi shelved his ambition to
run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat after Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya
Coalition’s top leadership handpicked Polycarp Igathe to carry the outfit’s
flag in the contest.
Speaking at a social event in his constituency, the
Westlands MP made it clear that his time has come.
“They cannot stop an idea whose time has come,” he said.
Wanyonyi said his determination is fuelled by a conviction
that Nairobi’s leadership needs a visionary approach, adding that he believes
that no one else is better suited for the role.
“I have so many enemies, including in my party, who keep
saying that I will not be the governor of Nairobi. But this time, if they stand
in our way, we will bypass them,” he stated.
The Westlands MP added that his governorship will be built on a vision of inclusive development, particularly addressing the needs
of youth and small business owners.
“I will take care of youth interests and protect business
people from harassment,” Wanyonyi vowed.
