Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that he will pursue legal means to challenge the public participation conducted against his impeachment motion.
Gachagua termed the public participation as ‘shoddy’ saying it was not conducted within the law.
This comes after Kenyans came out to give their views on the impeachment motion against the DP.
The exercise was conducted on Friday and Saturday across the nation, which saw Kenyans give their views on the motion.
Gachagua said that the public participation was done with legal jargon that may not be conversant with many Kenyans.
“An attempt to do a public participation in a very shoddy exercise that was done. My response was not part of what was presented to Kenyans," Gachagua said.
"Kenyans were being asked to give their views as to whether the Deputy President should be impeached from office, and the accusations were made, but in a highly legalistic language beyond the comprehension of many Kenyans. But the response of the DP was not there to enable them to make an informed decision by listening to the charges against him and his response."
The DP said that according to the rules, he does not stand to be condemned unheard.
“My lawyers will be vigorously challenging that public participation because it does not meet the threshold of public participation as expounded by the Supreme Court of Kenya,” he said.
