The Senate is set to hold a sitting to hear charges against impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a Special gazette, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said the siting will commence at 9.30 am.
During the sitting, the Senate will also decide how the case will be heard, either through a Committee or the plenary.
“Pursuant to Article 145 (3) (a) of the Constitution and Standing Order 78 (1) of the Senate Standing Orders, I appoint the sitting of the Senate on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 9.30 a.m. as the sitting convened for the purpose of hearing the charges in the matter of the proposed removal from office, by impeachment, of His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua, E.G.H., Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” it reads.
Gachagua was impeached on Tuesday after 281 MPs voted in favour of his removal from office.
The threshold set by the constitution is at least 233 MPs.
The notice comes hours after the Clerk of the National Assembly notified the Clerk of the Senate of the approval of the impeachment motion by MPs.
