The hearing of the murder case of rally driver Asad Khan resumes today at the High Court in Nairobi.
The state is expected to call yet another witness to testify before trial judge Lillian Mutende.
During the last hearing on October 18, a witness told the hearing that Khan died from multiple organ failure caused by excessive bleeding.
Dr Hussein Moosajee from Avenue Hospital told the court the bleeding was from a cut wound on Khan’s right lower leg.
He explained it was possible the deceased contracted sepsis (blood infection) because the injury on his limb could not be classified as fatal.
“Asad lost a lot of blood. The injury to his leg wasn’t the automatic cause of his death,” he said.
He was first taken to The Nairobi Hospital but transferred to Avenue at the request of his relatives. He suffered a cardiac arrest while at The Nairobi Hospital.
“His heart stopped. He had to be resuscitated. His organs were in a bad taste,” Moosajee said.
The patient remained unconscious while at Avenue where he died. The doctor said they didn’t establish whether he had any other underlying conditions but they knew he was diabetic and hypertensive.
Asad Khan died on December 18, 2022, after an altercation with his girlfriend, rally driver Maxine Wahome who has been charged with murder. She denied the charges.
Elsewhere in the High Court, the hearing of the case on the murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai will also proceed today before Justice Kanyi Kimondo.
Muchai was killed on the morning of February 7, 2015, alongside his bodyguard and driver after they were shot dead.
Those on trial over his murder are Eric Isabwa alias chairman, Raphael Kimani alias Kim Butcher, Mustapha Kimani alias Musto, Stephen Astiva alias Chokore, Jane Wanjiru alias Shiro, Margaret Njeri and Simon Wambugu.
They have all denied the charges.
A forensic examiner who testified last month said he was unable to give details regarding the shooting.
Chief Inspector Jackson Cheboi told trial judge Kanyi Kimondo that from the video footage presented in court, he could not tell the time when Muchai’s vehicle came to a standstill.
He said the footage was not clear owing to the technology that was being used at the time.
He said he does not know the vehicle that brought the
assassins along Kenyatta Avenue and Uhuru Highway intersection where Muchai was
allegedly shot.
