The Judiciary has announced five vacancies in the Public Benefit Organisations (PBO) Dispute Tribunal.
In a notice on Wednesday dailies, the office of the Chief Justice invited applications for the position of the Tribunal's chairperson and four members.
The interested and qualified persons are advised to visit the Judiciary Portal www.judiciary.go.ke for detailed job description, requirements for appointment and instructions on how to apply.
The Judiciary noted that the applications must be submitted not later than November 15, 2024, at 5 pm.
The office of the CJ assured that candidates will be selected on merit through fair and open competition from the widest range of eligible candidates.
Section 50(1) of the Public Benefit Organizations Act No. 18 of 2013 provides for the establishment of the Dispute Tribunal, whose members are to be appointed by the Chief Justice and approved by the National Assembly.
The PBOs Act establishes the Public Benefits Organisations Disputes Tribunal (the Tribunal) which has the jurisdiction to hear and determine complaints arising out of any breach of the provisions of the Act.
The Tribunal also has the jurisdiction to hear and determine any matter or appeal made to it pursuant to the provisions of the PBOs Act.
The PBOs Act provides for the establishment and operation of public benefit organisations (PBOs).
A PBO is defined as a membership or non-membership grouping of individuals or organisations, which is autonomous, non-partisan, non-profit-making and that is engaged in public benefit activities.
Public benefit activities are identified in the legislation as activities that support or promote public benefit.
This is done by enhancing or promoting economic, environmental, social, or cultural development or protecting the environment, or lobbying or advocating on issues of general public interest or the interest or well-being of the general public or a category of individuals or organisations.
