Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale now says that impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was a good man but had his shortcomings.

Speaking on Wednesday, Duale said the former Deputy President should have been loyal to the Constitution and the people of Kenya.

He insisted that loyalty pays and he is an example of what it can do to someone.

Duale reminisced how he was fired from the Cabinet together with President William Ruto and he stood with him to the end.

He noted how former President Uhuru Kenyatta wanted him to join the Azimio side but he remained loyal to Ruto, a move that saw him lose a key position in the National Assembly, the leader of Majority.

The CS insisted that it pays to be loyal to the Constitution of Kenya and a course that one believes in.

“Riggy G (Rigathi Gachagua) is a good man but I think he needed to be very loyal. I tell colleagues even in Cabinet and many people there's a lot of dividends in loyalty. Loyalty pays, and I am a living example of loyalty,” Duale said on Citizen TV.

“I was sacked together with the current president, President Uhuru Kenyatta wanted me to join Azimio I left the leader of majority position. It’s good to be loyal to your friend, it is good to be loyal to the Constitution and it is good to be loyal to the people of Kenya. It's good to be loyal to what you believe in

The Environment CS has been most vocal about the impeachment of Gachagua as the second-in-command.

Gachagaua was impeached by the National Assembly when 281 MPs voted to approve an ouster motion against him, Only 40 MPs voted against the motion, while one abstained.

The Senate would later on uphold the impeachment effectively rendering Gachagua jobless.

The former DP later on moved to court and the hearing is ongoing.

After impeachment, President William Ruto nominated Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President.

His nomination was approved by the National Assembly and is only awaiting swearing-in to start discharging his duties as the President’s Principal assistant.

The High Court is expected to make a ruling on whether it will lift orders barring his taking the oath of office.
