A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate at Kisumu Boys High School is sitting his examinations at a health facility due to his critical health condition.
The school’s principal, Austin Muma, confirmed that the school has registered 550 candidates for the ongoing KCSE examinations, and the boy was rushed to the medical facility this morning from where he is undertaking his examinations while at the same time undergoing treatment.
The school principal disclosed that the learner has been suffering from sickle cell but hoped he would be able to sit all his examinations without any hitches.
“We have 550 candidates for this year, and all our candidates are in school save for one who is sitting his examinations at Nightingale Medical Centre given his condition of the sickle cell, so we have to assist him as he is doing his examinations under extremely difficult conditions,” Muma said.
This is even as the sub-county’s director of education, Charles Ang'iela, disclosed that 3547 candidates are sitting the examination in the sub-county with adequate arrangements having been finalised.
“I want to say that preparations for these examinations have been finalized and we have arranged for adequate transport and enough security, that is, security officers per every examination centre as well as invigilators and supervisors per examination centre," he said.
"Besides, the examinations have not begun today since the practicals started way back, and we have not faced any challenges, and we are going on well, “Ang’iela said.
The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) kicked off for the main papers on Monday, with more than 900,000 students sitting for the exam.
The exam started on October 22, where the candidates took their oral and practical exams for the elective subjects.
On Monday, the candidates wrote the English Functional Skills paper during the morning hours, while Chemistry Paper 1 was administered in the afternoon.
