Police in Nkubu, Meru County are investigating an incident in which a woman accidentally hit and killed her two-year-old son.

Police said the woman, who was a farm worker was digging together with her child aged two years and six months old.

While she was still doing the work, the deceased child slid and fell in front where she accidentally hit him with a fork jembe on the back of the head and he sustained a deep cut wound on the head.

The child was rushed to a private clinic at Kionyo Market, where he was given first aid and later rushed to Consolata Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body of the infant was moved to the Kanyakine Hospital Mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.

Police said investigations are underway.

Elsewhere in Ketere, Migori County, three men were trapped in a mine after it collapsed while they were at work.

Confirming the accident, police officers said the three, aged between 21 and 39 years old, sustained several injuries including that of the head, right leg and right hand.

Police said they received the report on the collapsed gold mine and upon proceeding to the scene established that the mine was illegal.

Six men had been trapped inside the gold mine which is 600ft deep and it collapsed at section two about 200ft deep.

Police said the six were pulled out of the mine by the local miners who had been mobilised. There was no fatality.

The three were all rushed to Rongo Subcounty Hospital for treatment, where one of the men was discharged in fair condition.

The other two victims were referred to Migori County Hospital for specialised treatment while in serious but stable conditions. The other three escaped unhurt and vanished immediately.

In another case, a man aged 52 years old was found dead in his room on Biashara Street, in Nairobi.

 When police visited the scene, they found the body kneeling while leaning on the bed with no physical injuries.

The cause of death could not be immediately established, police added.

 Police said the body was photographed and moved to the City Mortuary pending post-mortem.
