Azimio leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka in Kitale

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa have hinted at ditching the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance for a new political outfit.

Speaking in Kitale, the two leaders said the new political outfit will offer alternative leadership to the people of Kenya.

According to Kalonzo, they are still consulting widely.

“A good idea always gives way to a better idea. What we are thinking about is a better idea. We are looking ahead and we are very consultative,” the Wiper leader said.

He, however, warned the media not to write off Azimio yet, saying that if all goes well it could be part of the new coalition.

“And I want to urge the media not to bury Azimio before it is actually dead and buried. If we come up with a new outfit, it could even incorporate perhaps Azimio itself,” Kalonzo added.

Eugene Wamalwa on his part said their new political vehicle could be ready as soon as early next year.

The former Defence CS said he strongly believes the new outfit is the one that will save the country from the jaws of corruption.

“We are just a few days to the New Year and there are new things that are coming and I believe there will be a new coalition, and a new government. I believe that this is the team that will save Kenya from corruption.”

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu who was also present said the new outfit is the vehicle they will use in the 2027 presidential campaigns.

According to Waitutu, Kalonzo will be their flagbearer in the next general elections.

“We are in that coalition led by Kalonzo Musyoka. He will be our president come 2027.”

The leaders spoke at the memorial of Kenya’s eighth Vice President, the late Michael Kijana Wamalwa in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

This comes after Martha Karua-led Narc Kenya party announced its exit from the Azimio coalition in July 2024.

DAP-K has also announced its exit from the coalition. Other constituent parties left immediately Azimio lost elections.
