US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman has affirmed that the relationship between Kenya and the United States will continue to bolster ahead of a new government in January.
This comes after US President-elect Donald Trump's “historic return” to office.
In a statement, Whitman said she will continue to advance the two nations' shared goals ahead of the new administration.
"Like all US ambassadors, I serve at the request of the President. The American people have spoken, and a new President will be inaugurated in January. Meanwhile, my team and I continue to work on advancing our nations' shared goals of increased prosperity, security, and respect for democratic values," Whitman said.
"The relationship between the United States and Kenya has matured over the past 60 years and has enjoyed the support of a wide spectrum of political leaders in both Washington and Nairobi. Our relations have never been stronger and I am confident this trajectory will continue."
World leaders trooped to social media to congratulate Republican presidential candidate Trump over his project win in the November 5 elections.
The numbers suggested that Trump had crossed the 270 mark required in the Electoral College votes for one to win.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer congratulated Trump, saying that he looks forward to working with him in the coming years. He also described his win as historic.
“As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise."
President William Ruto congratulated the US President-elect, saying his victory is a showcase of the confidence citizens have in his leadership.
Ruto wished him well in his upcoming new tenure, praying for continued progress.
"Your Excellency President Donald Trump On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Kenya and my behalf, I convey to Your Excellency my warmest congratulations on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America," Ruto said.
"Your victory is a testament to the firm resolve of the American people to repose confidence in your visionary, bold and innovative leadership. As you embark on this phase of your journey of leadership, Kenya stands ready to further enhance our cooperation on matters of mutual interest, including trade, investment, technology and innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development."
He further added:
"Kenya values its longstanding partnership with the United States spanning over sixty years grounded in our shared values of democracy, development, and mutual respect. We look forward to deepening our collaboration under your leadership as we work together to address global challenges, promote peace and security, and foster inclusive economic growth for the benefit of our peoples."
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi congratulated Trump on his “historic return” to office.
He said the election has been a testament to the resilience of democratic values, with Americans making their voices resoundingly heard.
“As you prepare to assume leadership, leaders worldwide anticipate the opportunity to work together once more in addressing global challenges and advancing a brighter future for all,” he said on X.
