5 shot dead as police recover 560 stolen cattle

Five peopole sustained injuries in the Samburu and Isiolo counties operations.

At least seven people, among them bandits, have lost their lives in incidences involving theft and recovery of cattle in Isiollo and Samburu counties on Monday.

In the Bojidare area, an unknown number of suspected bandits armed with assault rifles invaded Manyattas while shooting, and in the process, they stole about 250 cows and 300 goats around 02:30 am.

A multi-agency National Police Service officers comprising Kenya Police, Anti-Stock Theft Unit and National Police Reservists officers trailed and recovered all 300 goats plus 30 cows.

During the incident, two people lost their lives, and three others were injured.

The injured were evacuated to Isiolo District Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were handed over to their families for burial according to Muslim rites.

In the Hola Bule area, an unknown number of bandits armed with assault rifles invaded a home and started shooting, before stealing 19 herds of cattle.

NPS and NPR Officers at the scene established that one man had been fatally shot, while two other persons including an NPR Officer sustained gunshot wounds. All the 19 animals have been recovered.

In Samburu County, two bandits were fatally shot across the River Waso area under Samburu East, and a total of 211 stolen heads of cattle were recovered.

Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli and the Eastern Regional Security team arrived in Isiolo this morning to assess the security situation and coordinate the operations in the area until peace and order are restored.

Reinforcement teams from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU and NPR have been dispatched and investigations launched by DCI.

NPS thanked members of the public for their assistance in the three operations.
