Four people have lost their lives in separate road accidents, adding to the rising toll of fatalities on Kenyan roads.
In one incident, a motorcycle carrying two pillion passengers was involved in a fatal crash.
Police said the rider was using the Isiolo-Marsabit road in the Lerata area when he lost control of the motorcycle and fell on the tarmac road.
As a result, the rider and his pillion passengers sustained head injuries and were rushed to Archers Post Sub-County Hospital where one of the pillion passengers died while undergoing treatment.
Police said the rider and the other pillion passenger were treated and later referred to Isiolo County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
The deceased body is lying at the said facility morgue for autopsy.
In another accident, one person died after a motorcycle and a vehicle collided along the Mombasa – Malindi road.
Police said the motorcycle was being ridden from Mtwapa's general direction while the motor vehicle was heading in the opposite direction.
On reaching the location of the accident, police said, the rider failed to keep to his proper lane and collided head-on with the said vehicle.
As a result of the impact, the rider sustained head injuries and was rushed to Coast General Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
Another motor vehicle was involved in an accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway At Kabati Centre after the driver lost control and veered off the road hitting a tree.
The vehicle had four occupants on board, where one of the passengers sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the other occupants escaped unhurt.
The forth accident occurred along the Uganda road at Raiply area in Eldoret when a motor cycle tried overcoming a vehicle and a bicycle.
Police said the three were heading towards Eldoret’s general direction from Kitale with the cyclist on the footpath.
Upon reaching the location of the accident, the rider maneuvered between the pedal cyclist and the motor vehicle to overtake from the left, and in the process, the rider hit the pedal cyclist, lost control, and rammed on the rear left side of the truck.
As a result, the rider sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot, his pillion passenger sustained slight injuries on the right hand while the pedal cyclist sustained slight injuries on the right knee.
Police said the victims were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical treatment while the body was moved to the same hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
The motor vehicle and the motorcycle were detained at the station pending inspection.
