The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Moi University VC Professor Isaac Kosgey to appear for grilling at the commission’s Eldoret offices.
The EACC says it’s investigating the alleged embezzlement of more than Sh2.2 billion at the university through fraudulent infrastructural projects.
The commission says it has summoned the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Kosgey, over alleged financial mismanagement.
The Commission has instructed the Vice Chancellor to appear in person for an interview and statement recording at the Commission’s North Rift Regional Offices in Eldoret on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 9 am.
EACC spokesman Eric Ngumbi confirmed the summons and said there are ongoing investigations into reports of mismanagement of public funds at the university.
Ngumbi said the EACC summoned the VC to respond to alleged mismanagement of infrastructural projects worth Sh2,189,659,497.88.
Kosgey has been summoned alongside three other senior officials.
Ngumbi has also alleged that some officials also face accusations of attempting to interfere with the ongoing investigations and obstructing the Commission by failing to submit crucial documents despite several reminders.
In a separate letter of the same date, the Vice Chancellor has been instructed to avail various original documents, including minutes of 18 special meetings.
The Commission says it has intensified focus on public universities where top officials are directly or indirectly facilitating or abetting corruption and unethical practices.
Moi University is currently on the verge of collapse, with unexplained debts running to more than Sh20 billion, including Sh12 billion being demanded by striking lecturers.
