Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will on Monday lead the launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

The event will be held at Wote Stadium, Makueni County from 8 am.

The theme is “Towards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action - "UNITE to end Violence against Girls and Women"

According to UN Women, every 10 minutes, partners and family members killed a woman intentionally in 2023.

The organisation said nearly one in three women experience violence in their lifetime and for thousands of women, the cycle of GBV ended with one final and brutal act their murder by partners and family members.

Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life.

UN Women said the solution lies in robust responses, holding perpetrators accountable, and accelerating action through well-resourced national strategies and increased funding to women's rights movements.

‘The alarming escalation of violence against women needs revitalisation of commitments, accountability, and action from decision-makers,” it added.

MP Elachi to host event on the 16 days of activism to end GBV

Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi is hosting an event to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence against Women.

The event will take place at Lavington Social Hall, Nairobi from 9:30 am.

This event, organised by KEWOPA with support from UN Women and Nguvu Collective, brings together key stakeholders to reflect, strategise, and amplify efforts to combat violence against women and girls.

JHR-Kenya to discuss GBV

JHR-Kenya is set to hold a media roundtable to foster constructive dialogue on reporting of GBV issues, at Fairmont The Norfolk, Harry Thuku Road, Nairobi from 8 am to 4 pm.

This roundtable aims to bring together media professionals, families of femicide victims, survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), civil society organizations (CSOs), and representatives from government agencies to foster constructive dialogue on the reporting of femicide and broader issues related to GBV.

Launch of UNODC/UN femicide report

The UN Women will today launch the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report on femicide.

This comes even as cases of murder against women are on the rise, with more than 100 women killed since January.

The event will be held at Trademark Hotel.

Murkomen to preside over inauguration of Gender Protection Committee

Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen will today preside over the official inauguration of the Gender Protection and Implementation Committee at Talanta Plaza, Rooftop at 8 am.

The task force will, among other responsibilities, be tasked with advancing gender equity, safeguarding the rights of individuals in the youth, sports and creative sectors, and providing policy guidance to ensure inclusive an safe environment for all.

CS Mutua to lead job recruitment program in Nakuru

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua will today lead the National Job Recruitment Program in Nakuru City.

The recruitment will be held at Rift Valley National Polyethnic, Nakuru County from 8 am to 5 pm and will serve the first people to arrive at the centre.

This comes after successful recruitments in Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties.

“We have secured over 1,000 job opportunities for Nakuru residents in countries such as Australia, Qatar, Poland, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Germany among others,” he said.

Mutua directed the applicants to carry with them their National ID, relevant academic certificates, updated CV, and passport (if available).

He assured those a passport that they will be selected, stating that “we’ll assist you in acquiring one quickly”.

COG to launch Financial Procedure Manual

The Council of Governors led by Chair Ahmed Abdullahi, in collaboration with partners, will today, launch the financial procedure manual for County health spending units.

This is a key publication that seeks to support county governments in promoting fiscal prudence and accountability in the health sector.

The event will be held at Movenpick Hotel, Nairobi at 09.30 am.
