The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has provided an update following Wednesday's national grassroots election, reporting that the exercise proceeded smoothly in more than 98 per cent of the polling units.

NEC Chairperson Emily Awita stated that Presiding Officers at each polling unit guided members and candidates through the process, where in most cases, members opted for consensus, while in some areas, voting by show of hands was used.

"Overall, the exercise was successful, except in a few polling units where incidents of violence and disruption were reported," she said.

Awita added that the party will investigate the areas where disruptions occurred and take appropriate action against those responsible, regardless of their status within the party or society.

She explained that the elections were slowed in some regions due to ongoing rains, which have affected much of the country.

However, these weather conditions did not prevent members from exercising their democratic rights.

The party has started receiving results from Presiding Officers across the country.

Awita confirmed that the results are being uploaded to the party’s election portal.

So far, results have been received from the following counties: Mandera, Mombasa, Lamu, Wajir, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kilifi, Siaya, Homa Bay, Busia, and Kisumu.

Other counties, including Taita Taveta, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Bomet, Nakuru, Marsabit, Kwale, West Pokot, and Garissa, have also submitted their results.

Awita acknowledged that in some cases, slow network connections were delaying the process, but assured that the party’s election officials are working around the clock to finalize the results by the end of the day.

The party reiterated its invitation for candidates dissatisfied with the election outcomes to file a formal appeal through its online portal: https://odmelectionappeal.mobifinplus.com/electiondisputes.html.

Each appellant is required to pay a fee of Sh3,000 within 24 hours of the results being declared.

The deadline for submitting appeals is Friday, November 29.
