In Summary
The Ministry of Education has released the
academic calendar for 2025.
It contains term dates, half term and
examination dates for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya
Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), Kenya Junior School Education
Assessment (KJSEA), Kenya Prevocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) and
Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE).
The calendar from the office of the Principal Secretary of
Basic Education indicates that schools will reopen for Term 1 on January 6,
2025, and close on April 4 after 13 weeks of learning.
In between, there will be a five-day half term running from
February 26 to March 2.
Three-week April holidays will run from April 7 to 25.
The calendar shows that schools will reopen on April 28 for
Term 2 for a 14-week learning period that will conclude on August 1.
The learners will proceed for their five-day half term from
June 25 – 29.
Three-week August holiday will run from August 4 to 22.
Learners will report back to school for Term 3 on August 25
for a nine-week learning period that will end on October 24.
The calendar shows that all national exams will commence on
October 27 save for KCSE, which will start on November 23 and end on November
23.
KPSEA will be held for five days until October
30.
Candidates will sit KILEA for five days until
October 31.
KJSEA and KPLEA will subsist for nine days to
November 6.
December holidays will run from October 27 at the onset of
the national exams and assessments until January 2, 2025.
The government has assured parents that the construction of 11,000 new calssrooms will be complete by December in readiness for Grade 9 learners.
The more than 1.3 million learners are the pioneer class of the Competency-Based Curriculum and will be doing the final year of Junior school in 2025.
The group will sit the inaugural Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) to enable them transition to Senior School.
