Suspected goons disrupted a funeral ceremony in Limuru attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Mourners scampered to safety as the rowdy group emerged from behind the tent where Gachagua and other leaders were seated, forcing them to flee.

Videos posted on X show the invading party throwing plastic chairs at escaping groups of people.

In the footage, a commotion is heard moments after a speaker started delivering his message before the microphone went mute.

Just as he was handed another microphone, hell broke loose.

Former DP Gachagua and Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa during the funeral ceremony.

The intruders scattered while screaming as mourners scampered for safety in all directions as the attacking party continued throwing chairs at the escaping groups.

The former DP was whisked away by his security.

The intruders continued vandalising vehicles using plastic chairs as mourners watched helplessly.

It wasn't immediately established if anyone was injured but images shared online show damaged vehicles.

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa who was seated next to Gachagua claimed the chaos was an attempt on the former DP’s life.

"It was an assassination attempt. But the People's Deputy President is safe. Asanteni sana, watu wa Limuru, for ensuring our safety. We will not be intimidated or silenced—now we know,” he claimed in a post on X and Facebook.

Gachagua has severally claimed that there have been attempts at his life at least twice before his impeachment.

The former DP also recently claimed that unknown people, ones he believed were security agents, were trailing him in unmarked vehicles wherever he went.

"They are parking at the entrance of my Nairobi residence, taking note of all my visitors, and they trail me whenever I leave the house, even to my rural home in Nyeri,” he claimed on X on November 20.

"In this era of extrajudicial killings, forced abductions and disappearances, I have thought it important to share with Kenyans the harassment and intimidation I am going through, and inform them to hold the state responsible if I am harmed by state agents."

The DCI dismissed the claims terming them false after a local daily carried allegations that detectives in unmarked Subaru cars attempted to prevent Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi.

"We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and seem to be aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI. The DCI operates within the parameters established by the rule of law and has consistently affirmed its commitment to refraining from interference in the liberties of individuals and institutions,” the DCI said.

It was the second time Gachagua was expressing fears over his safety.
