COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said that Busia
Senator must meet certain conditions if at all he wants to become president of
Kenya.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Atwoli said Omtatah must begin by uniting the whole of Western Kenya region.
He went on to say that the activist turned politician must also consult leaders across the region including those serving in the current administration.
Atwoli said that a caucus from these consultations will then tell him if he has a chance to lead Kenya or not.
He added that there are many people who will want to view for the country’s top job from the western region.
“Okiyah must bring the Western leadership together. He must seriously consult people like Amos Wako, in his Busia turf. He must move to Bungoma and consult people like Moses Wetang’ula, look for Musalia Mudavadi and move close to him and from there let him have a caucus that will be able to tell him here you will be able to make it or not… Many people are going to show up it is not only Okiyah Omtatah,” Atwoli said.
The Trade Unionist Omtatah can do as many researches as he wants on his bid, but there are key aspects one has to meet for political achievements.
“You can do thousands of research but there are some key elements of political achievements.”
Atwoli noted that should the Busia Senator have sought his advice, he would first want to see his budget and how he plans to fund and sustain his campaigns.
He insisted that political campaigns across the world associate with wealth, especially when one is just emerging into the political space.
“If he came to me, the first thing I would ask him is let me see your budget and whether you are going to depend on well-wishers or what do you have as a person?
“When you are merging for a political position the first thing you must have the world over is wealth. Nobody wants to be associated with a poor person,” Atwoli said.
His remarks came a few days after Omtatah named a 10-member Presidential Exploratory Committee.
In a Gazette Notice dated November 22, the Senator announced that the team would assess the viability of his candidacy for the upcoming General Election.
The Committee will serve for at least 18 months.
