President William Ruto on Monday morning visited the home of 87-year-old Drisilla Jumwa in Wundayi, Taita Taveta to launch an electricity connection that had been installed at her home as part of the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity.
The President who was in the company of Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi was ushered into the home by the elderly woman.
A display of happiness was evident on their faces upon confirmation that the house was finally connected to power even as Jumwa raised her hands in a show of gratitude.
“Delighted to have connected 87-year-old Drisilla Jumwa from Mwanguwi to electricity as part of our efforts to scale up the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project,” he said.
Ruto said they are investing Sh1.1 billion to connect 9,000 households in Taita Taveta County to power, including 900 beneficiaries from Wundanyi Constituency.

Ruto flagged off the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation Paranga Electrification project in the area.
Later, the Head of State addressed the residents at Wundayi town, reiterating his commitment to uniting the country.
Ruto emphasised that he will not back down from
efforts to promote national cohesion, regardless of political affiliations.
