Kindiki: We’ll be vindicated once Taifa Care is fully implemented

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said that the Kenya Kwanza government will stand vindicated once the implementation of Taifa Care, under the Social Health Authority (SHA) is completed.

Speaking on Thursday when he presided over the 93rd Graduation of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Kindiki said the government remains open to any ideas that can better the new national health insurance scheme.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to seeing the project to the completion, adding that there is no turning back.

“I have no doubt as President Ruto has stated that we shall stand vindicated in the long run. As a responsible government, we shall we remain open to ideas and proposals that will better improve the rollout and implementation of the transformation agenda for the heath sector especially through Taifa care, the universal health coverage.

“What is clear, however is the conviction to see these reforms through, there is no turning back,” Kindiki said.

He noted that the transition to Taifa Care is part of the government’s broader plan to offer quality and affordable healthcare to all Kenyans.

Kindiki insisted that the reforms are deliberate efforts by the Kenya Kwanza administration and the recognition that it they will result in other secondary benefits such as creation of jobs.

“The transition into Taifa Care, reforms into the medical logistics supply chain, investments in locally manufactured vaccines and medicine, focus on community health through the Community Health Promoters and the expansion and facilitation of training capabilities among other interventions is testament to this commitment.

“These reforms are not coincidental, they deliberately recognize that the investment will also result in secondary benefits among communities such as increased opportunities including jobs,” Kindiki said.

He noted that while the implementation has faced some huddles, the need for a perfect system should not stop the country from getting to enjoy the good that will come out of Taifa Care.

The Deputy President added that he is convinced the new health insurance scheme is will fulfil the aspirations of Kenyans will culminated to the formation of the Bottom Up Economic Agenda (BETA).

He said these are demands Kenyans wanted when President William Ruto was campaigning to over the leadership of the country.

“Whereas some teething challenges have impacted the seamless transition of these reforms especially from NHIF to Taifa Care, the perfect should not become the enemy of the good.

“I am convinced that we are responding to health aspiration of Kenyans as demanded to us during the county economic forums that resulted in the Bottom Up Economic Transformation agenda pillars.”

Kindiki further stated that Quality and affordable healthcare is the foundation for a dynamic, prosperous and productive Country.
