A Citizen TV journalist was Thursday reportedly harassed by a security agent in a troubling incident that has gone viral on social media.
Kenyans on social media have condemned the incident with some demanding action to be taken against the officer.
The struggle between the two is evident as the man forces his hands onto the camera, trying to grab it from her hands.
During the exchange, the man is heard saying, "utaivunja" (you will break it), referring to the camera, as he continues with his efforts to take it from the journalist.
"Achilia (let it go)" he added.
Despite his attempts by the security officers to grab the camera, the journalist refused to give in.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and rights of journalists, especially in environments where they are vulnerable to harassment and intimidation.
The involvement of the security agents further complicates the situation, as it suggests a deliberate effort to prevent the journalist from documenting or reporting on an event, potentially aiming to suppress the freedom of the press.
The journalist had gone to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Headquarters after Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa was summoned.
The area was under heavy police presence, where the anti-riot police were deployed outside the DCI ahead of Thangwa’s arrival for grilling in relation to Limuru funeral chaos.
Also expected at the offices for grilling is former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi.
Police said more police were deployed outside the Mazingira Building in anticipation of possible chaos.
