Court issues arrest warrant for cop facing defilement charges


A Magistrate court in Embu has issued a warrant of arrest against a cop suspected of defiling a four-year-old girl in Embu.

The said cop Anthony Kivuti Njagi is accused of committing the act on July 23, 2022, in Ndatu village, Embu West subcounty.

The officer who is facing defilement charges however failed to appear before the court as required on December 4, prompting the court to issue the warrant.

He had been released on bond.

"You are hereby commanded forthwith to apprehend the said person and bring him before this court to answer to these charges and be dealt with according to the law," the warrant issued on December 9 read in part.

As such, the Internal Affairs Unit under the National Police Service has asked all police stations, posts, bases and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices to be on the lookout for him and effect arrest if he's sighted.

"All commands, be on the lookout. If traced, effect arrest and inform this end for collection," the notice written by the unit's deputy director Barasa Sayia said.
