Court orders immediate opening of Central Park

A Lands Court has ordered the immediate opening of Central Park which has been closed since November 2021.

Environment and Lands Judge Anne Omollo issued the order following an application filed by the Greenbelt Movement.

The Judge in issuing the order noted that the park was closed down without notice or any information being given to the public.

The Judge at the same time allowed the participation of Kamukunji human rights defenders, Kiamaiko Social Justice Centre, Utalli Youth Group and five others in the case as interested parties.

The Greenbelt movement the petitioner in the case was also granted 14 days to amend and serve their petition on Nairobi City County government, CEC Environment (respondents).

The respondents are also free to file their responses within 21 days.

Pre-trial was set for February 13 next year.
