Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has for the first time opened up on his relationship with his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua saying that they remain good friends.
Kindiki who spoke during a media roundtable on Thursday said their relations have not changed a bit.
“Our relationship is the same as it was. We’re good people, good friends,” he said.
Asked about lessons he has learnt from Gachagua’s term, Kindiki said he did not want to discuss the former DP.
He insisted that it would be wrong for him to start comparing himself with Gachagua.
“Allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua. It is wrong to start comparing myself with the person who occupied this office,” he said.
On whether Gachagua’s impeachment process was flawed, Kindiki said that the process involved all arms of government and he sees no problem with it.
He went on to say that should there be an issue, there is a clear constitutional process to make corrections to that.
“The process involved three arms of government the Executive, Parliament and the Judiciary. I see no problem with the process and if there is there is a way to remedy,” the DP said. On whether he regrets taking the job, Kindiki said that he has no regrets whatsoever. “I have no regret for occupying this space (being Deputy President).”
President William Ruto appointed Kithure Kindiki as the Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruto highlighted several reasons why he chose Kindiki as his Deputy President.
He described the new Deputy President as a tireless public servant on the path of national leadership.
Ruto said Kindiki is a patriot whose dedication to cohesion, national unity and inclusivity is beyond reproach.
Kindiki was sworn in as Kenya’s third Deputy President under the new Constitution.
Before his nomination, Kindiki served as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
