Gaitho tweeted on Thursday shortly after the DCI appealed for information about him and listed him as 'wanted'.
“I will be presenting myself at DCI headquarters on Monday... at 10am accompanied by my lawyers,” he said.
“I’m not a criminal. I’m not a murderer. I’m not a capital offender. I just tweet. Freedom of speech is a constitutional entitlement and I exercise it to the best of my ability.”
Gaitho claimed that he is a victim of political persecution, adding that other criminals are walking free.
"This latest tweet by DCI is crafted to evoke fear and isolate me from friends and family as they know my lawyers and could have served them direct," Gaitho said on X.
He urged the media to closely follow his arrest, adding that in light of all the abductions and enforced disappearances, media coverage will greatly assist in enforcing accountability from law enforcement agencies.
In the cited statement by DCI on Thursday, it alleged that Gaitho had been charged with publishing false information and failed to appear in court on December 4, 2024, resulting in a warrant of arrest being issued against him.
"Freedom of speech is a constitutional entitlement and I exercise it to the best of my ability," Gaitho said.
