High Court Advocates Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa on Wednesday were in court for the hearing of abduction cases, showing solidarity with the victims of enforced disappearances.
Also present were Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru.
They joined the proceedings to demand accountability and shed light on the circumstances surrounding the disappearances, as well as to identify those responsible.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin were expected to appear in court to show cause why they should not be cited for contempt.
The two officials were previously ordered by Justice Diana Kavedza to produce six suspects abducted in December 2024, but the order was not complied with, prompting the court’s directive for their appearance on Wednesday.
They however did not show up.
Kanja and Amin, along with the Director of Public Prosecutions and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, were named in a petition.
The petitioners include LSK and the Kenya Commission on Human Rights, which sought orders for the authorities to produce the abducted youths.
Since the abductions, victims Kibet Bull, Ronny Kiplagat, Billy Mwangi,
Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Kelvin Muthoni have been released, but Steve
Mbisi remains unaccounted for.
