Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has said that the Wiper party will form an alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, Maanzo expressed confidence that the alliance will secure victory in the 2027 presidential race.

“Wiper will form an alliance with Rigathi Gachagua. We will form a big alliance which will win 50+1, round one,” he said.

The Senator clarified that as of now, Wiper is still in coalition with ODM – Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

Affirming that the coalition is still in place, Maanzo said despite being an opposition party, ODM stepped up to help the ruling party to save the country in 2024.

He stated that the Orange party could not allow President William Ruto’s administration to be overrun by the Gen Zs during the June 2024 demonstrations, which would have destabilised the country.

Maanzo said there remains a mutual understanding between ODM and Wiper adding that regardless of their choices, the two parties do not attack each other.

He added that both principals – Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga – are looking for a united nation either individually or together.

The Senator reiterated that Wiper has already chartered their path of looking for the votes.

“And if ODM joins us on the way, we’ll work with them,” he said.

Interjecting, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said;

“Hatuachani boss. You’re not going to run away from us”.

Sifuna went on to hit out at the sister party, saying sometimes the things they say come out as “desperate” and “opportunistic”.

“Don’t throw yourselves at people. Allow people to come to you. It is a bit desperate for you to be saying you are going to look for Gachagua,” the Nairobi Senator said.

In December 2024, Gachagua hinted at the political alliance, saying Kalonzo has proven to be an ally of the Mt Kenya people and that they will return the favour.

He said from Kalonzo’s time as former President Mwai Kibaki's vice president, he has proven his unwavering loyalty to the region when it mattered the most.

"Huyu Kalonzo alisimama na Mwai Kibaki na hiyo deni hatukulipa. Sasa kura lazima tutaweka debe moja (Kalonzo stood with Mwai Kibaki and we have not settled that debt. Now we must cast our votes in the same ballot)," Gachagua said.
