A total of 107 out of 214 candidates who sat last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Lodwar Boys High School, will join the university after attaining a grade of C+ and above.

The breakdown of the results shows that two students scored an A-, 10 scored B+, 15 scored B, 31 scored B-, and 49 achieved a C+.

For the ninth consecutive year, the school did not produce a straight A grade.

The school’s Principal, Patrick Lokwayen, attributed this to the unwillingness of top KCPE performers, to join the institution after being selected.

“Some parents from other parts of the country refuse to allow their children to join Lodwar Boys High School, due to misconceived notions of insecurity,” said Lokwayen.

He further explained that the school often has to admit students with lower marks from within the County to fill the slots left by those who decline admission.

Lodwar Boys High School and Turkana Girls are the only National schools in the County.

The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results were released on January 9, 2025.

At the top, 1,693 students achieved an A grade, showcasing exceptional academic excellence.

Additionally, 7,743 scored A-, and 19,150 earned a B+, marking them as high achievers. A further 43,120 secured a B, while 75,347 obtained B-.

The middle and lower tiers tell a different story. C+ grades totalled 99,338, while 111,717 students earned a C.

Another 118,781 received C-, and 128,885 scored D+. Alarmingly, 353,154 candidates scored D or below, including 48,333 who recorded E grade.

During the 2024 KCSE examinations, a total of 962,512 candidates sat for the exams as compared to the 899,453 in 2023. 480,310 were male while 482,202 were female.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said all the candidates had been cleared to join various higher learning institutions to pursue careers of their choice.

"1,693 candidates obtained A's and 246, 391 got direct university entry qualifications of C+ and above,'' Ogamba said when he released the examination results at the KNEC headquarters.
