Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has defended Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi amid calls for the CS to resign after criticising the government over abductions.

Mundigi, who said he was elected to the Democratic Party to which Muturi is affiliated, said such calls are baseless as ''Muturi did nothing wrong''.

Speaking at a funeral in his county, Mundigi said any push to kick Muturi out of office would further rock the Kenya Kwanza boat.

According to the Senator, ejecting Muturi from office as CS would offend the coalition agreement between the DP party and Kenya Kwanza.

"The calls to have Justin Muturi resign are baseless and will not help our Embu County because before he was given that CS position there was a coalition agreement with Kenya Kwanza,'' he said.

The Senator called on President William Ruto to have a meeting with CS Muturi and address any concerns amicably saying any fallout hurt the people of Embu County.

"Even if he criticised the government, I do not see any need for Muturi to be under pressure to resign, let the President, the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other leaders sit down and iron any differences,'' he said.

Muturi has come under pressure from a section of MPs to resign or face impeachment over his tirade against the government over the alleged abduction of his son.

The CS said on Tuesday that he is ready to face those planning to impeach him telling them to ''bring it on.'

“I will just say bring it on, at my age, I am not the kind of person to respond to some perfunctory statements made by fairly inexperienced politicians,” Muturi said when he recorded a statement with DCI Kilimani.

National Assembly Majority Whip and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro lifted the lid on the plans to remove Muturi from office should he fail to resign.

Osoro also issued an ultimatum to Muturi demanding an apology for "disrespecting the Kenya Kwanza government by publicly airing grievances instead of addressing them internally".

“Resign, issue a public apology, or face impeachment when Parliament resumes,’’ Osoro told Muturi during a function in his constituency on Tuesday.
