Sifuna to Joho: Stop threatening Kenyans
He said Senate will summon Joho to explain his utterances in Taita Taveta
“For long, we in elected leadership have held ourselves out as being more knowledgeable and superior to the people."
In Summary
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna now says that he is proud Kenyans realised that they are more powerful than the people they elect to represent them.
Speaking on Wednesday, Sifuna said this is one of the biggest political changes that has taken shape, over the last one and a half years in the country.
He noted that for many years, elected leaders believed that they were more superior to the people that elected them but that is no longer the case.
The ODM Secretary General said this changed after the June
25, 2024 protests by the Gen Zs.
The protests forced President William Ruto to reject the Finance Bill, 2024 even after the National Assembly had approved it.
“My political position has remained the same! For me, the biggest political change we have experienced in the past year and a half is the realisation by mwananchi that they are more powerful than the leaders. That is the thing that gives me the greatest pride.
“For a long time, we in the elected leadership have held ourselves out as being more knowledgeable and superior to the people but after June 25 Kenyans realised that they are very powerful and all of these people who are prancing and beating their chests know deep inside they can be gotten to,” Sifuna said on Spice FM.
He added that he is proud to be living in a country where people know how powerful they are.
He further noted this can also be seen from statements some leaders have been making in the past few weeks.
“I am extremely proud to be a Kenyan who lives in a country where the people know that they are more powerful than the elected leadership; even when you hear the statements coming from the leaders, my view is that these people are very afraid.”
Some of the leaders allied Kenya Kwanza have been heard publicly saying they will do everything possible to ensure the government of the day stays in power after the next general election.
