Nine people were on Wednesday arrested in Migori during a crackdown on non-compliant alcohol outlets.

The operation was conducted by officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Migori County Office in Homa Bay Town.

According to Nacada, the crackdown aimed to ensure alcohol businesses in Homa Bay Town were in full compliance and operating within the law.

"Yesterday (Wednesday), the Migori County Office conducted a multi-agency crackdown in Homa Bay Town and its surrounding areas to ensure compliance with various laws. As a result, 9 suspects were arrested for different offenses and booked accordingly," the authority said in a statement through X.

The authority has called on the public to work with the compliance officials to help address the menace of drug abuse in the county and across the country.

This includes reporting any suspicious activities and practices conducted unlawfully by residents within their locality.

The public has also been urged to report any suspected use of illegal substances or practices in the area.

They can use the hotline 1192 provided by the authority to give direct reports to the relevant authorities.

The residents have also been encouraged to be conversant with the laws and regulations put in place.

"Familiarise yourself with the laws and regulations to help uphold a safe and lawful community," Nacada said.

In addition, the authority has called on the public to join hands in creating drug-free neighbourhoods to reside in.

"Join hands in creating drug-free neighborhoods by mentoring youth, supporting rehabilitation efforts, and advocating for healthy lifestyles," Nacada said.

Nacada has also been conducting road shows across the country to create awareness on the importance of having a drug-free society.

On Wednesday, teams from Nacada made a stop at Empopogi Primary School, Duka Moja, and Suswa in Narok County to spread the message of resilience and positive choices.

During the shows, residents were encouraged to resist peer pressure and make choices that protect their health and future.

"Alcohol and drug use can cloud judgment. Stay vigilant to keep everyone safe, on and off the road."
