Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli has insisted that the Western region will stand with President William Ruto in 2027.
Speaking in Kakamega when he accompanied the Head of State to the official launch of payment of bonuses to sugarcane farmers, Atwoli said they would do this without any conditions.
He went on to say that President Ruto works for all Kenyans and it is only good they support him.
“The people of the western will walk with and there is no agreement and no conditions. You work for us all for free and we will stand with you,” Atwoli said.
He told off critics of the President who had questioned where the money to pay farmers bonuses came from.
Other leaders present during the launch were Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, CS Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture), Deborah Barasa (Health) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives) as well as Governors Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega) and Ken Lusaka (Bungoma) among other elected leaders.
The COTU Secretary General’s remarks come a day after Ruto reiterated his commitment to uniting Kenyans and ensuring that no community, region, or group is excluded from national development.
Speaking during a church service in Bungoma, Ruto emphasised the importance of overcoming divisive practices such as ethnic discrimination and hatred to build a cohesive and prosperous nation.
“We must avoid things of hatred, divisiveness, ethnic discrimination, and all those other things,” Ruto stated.
"I want to give assurance to all Kenyans that there's no community that is going to be isolated, there is no region that is going to be isolated, there is no county that is going to be left behind, there is no religion that is going to be left behind, we are going to move together, as one people, as one nation with a common destiny," he added.
