The International Justice Mission (IJM) has appointed Vincent Chahale as the Country Director for the Kenya office.

Regional President for Africa and Europe Andy Griffiths confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Chahale has been with IJM Kenya since October 2020, leading the Justice Systems Interventions team for the Kenya Police Abuse of Power program.

He did this with overall responsibility for developing strategies for collaborative casework with a view of creating systemic changes in the country's criminal justice system.

Before joining IJM, Chahale worked in a variety of senior positions, mostly with the government.

They included the Commission on Administrative Justice, the Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs, and the State Law Office.

Chahale is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 20 years of experience in legal and advisory matters, leadership, performance management, mediation and corporate governance.

He has dedicated his career to championing justice, safeguarding human rights and strengthening justice systems in the country.

He was a technical committee member of the Presidential Task Force on the Legal and Regulatory Framework for Fighting Corruption in Kenya and a member of the Judiciary Task Force on Sentencing, both of which brought significant changes to the country's justice system reform.

In November 2024, Chahale graced the National Council on Administration of Justice (NCAJ)’ launch of the Administration of Justice in Kenya report for 2023-2024.

Addressing the forum, Chahale highlighted the essential role of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in advancing administrative justice in Kenya.

IJM is a part of the CSOs.

He noted that justice is not merely an abstract concept but a fundamental right that must be available to everyone, especially those in need.

“What the judiciary is celebrating here today is also an act of accountability—accountability to the Kenyan people, from whom judicial power is derived, and accountability to the Constitution and the law, which bestow the judiciary with its mandate,” Chahale said then.
