A magistrate court has allowed an application by the police to detain a man who was allegedly found with his wife's dismembered body parts in Huruma for 21 days pending further probe.

Milimani Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe allowed the application made by DCI officers attached at Starehe Sub-county to enable them to recover other body parts that are still missing.

The court heard that if John Kyama Wambua is released, he is likely to interfere with the probe since they are yet to recover another murder weapon which the police suspect to be a 'panga'.

The police said that they also need to record statements of key prosecution witnesses and undertake DNA tests to ascertain the age and real identity of the deceased.

Also needed during the time of the probe is a mental assessment that will be conducted on the suspect.

According to the affidavit filed in court, police officers attached to Huruma police station while on patrol sighted John carrying a bag on his bag.

"He looked suspicious," reads part of the affidavit.

They stopped him and proceeded to conduct a search on the bag and discovered human body parts (thoracic part) stashed in a nylon cement carrier.

"Upon interrogation, he led us to his house where some other parts of the body were recovered," reads the affidavit.

It further states that John allegedly confessed they belonged to his wife-Joy Munani (deceased).

During interrogation, John allegedly told the officers that he found Joy with another man, an argument ensued and he ultimately "chopped her body in order to dispose it"

Earlier, police said the woman's left hand, waist and hip area and one upper thigh were missing.

Outgoing police boss Adamson Bungei said the motive of the murder was yet to be established.

Bungei said they are investigating if the man acted alone.

Police said the family of the deceased had been traced and they will help in the probe.
