The total number of Mpox cases in the country is now at 36 from across 12 counties.

Muriuki said the highest number of cases by county are Nakuru 10 cases, Mombasa 8 cases, and Busia 3 cases.

Other Counties reporting cases are Nairobi, Kajiado, Bungoma, Taita Taveta, Kericho, and Kilifi with two cases each, as well as one case each from Makueni, Kiambu and Uasin Gishu respectively.

The PS assured that the MoH has put in place a robust surveillance system to quickly identify any potential cases.

“This includes close monitoring of travellers, especially those coming from countries where there is an active outbreak, and the provision of timely information to healthcare providers and the general public across the country,” she said.

She added that MoH has taken proactive steps in coordination with key stakeholders, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and other partners, to ensure that they have the necessary capacity to respond.

This includes strengthening the country’s health system, providing health workers with the necessary training and personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensuring that diagnostic tools are readily available in the laboratories.

“We have also initiated public awareness campaigns through community engagements with key populations, social and mass media and dissemination of Information, education and communication (IEC) materials to educate the general public on how to protect themselves from the disease,” Muriuki added.

She urged Kenyans to take preventive measures including proper hand hygiene as well as enhancing hygiene in the hospitality industry among others that are vital in controlling the spread of Mpox disease.
