US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania have marked their 20th wedding anniversary.
In a post on his X account, Trump described Melania as “an extraordinary wife and a wonderful mother”.
“Celebrating 20 years with my beautiful wife and our incredible First Lady, Melania. You're an extraordinary wife and a wonderful mother. Happy Anniversary,” he said on Wednesday.
The two first crossed paths in 1998 at a New York Fashion Week party.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2016, Melania said Trump wanted his number, but since he was on a date, she did not give it to him.
“I said, ‘I am not giving you my number. You give me yours, and I will call you’. I wanted to see what kind of number he would give me — if it was a business number, ‘What is this? I’m not doing business with you," she said.
She said Trump went on to give her all of his contact numbers, including the ones belonging to the office, his Mar-a-Lago resort and New York home.
Melania later called him after waiting for some days.
“I was struck by his energy. He has an amazing sense of vitality," she said.
Trump proposed to her in 2004 at The Met Gala.
Their wedding, Trump’s third, took place on January 22, 2005, at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida, with a reception at Mar-a-Lago.
The nuptials were attended by 350 guests.
The two have one child together, Barron Trump born in 2006, who is the youngest of the President’s five children.
Trump was previously married to Ivana Trump (three children) and Marla Maples (one child).
Trump and Melania became the First Family for the second time on Tuesday.
Following his post on Wednesday, Americans took to congratulate them.
“Happy Anniversary to you both. May the Lord bless you and keep you,” an X user said.
“How wonderful is this,” another said.
“You guys are amazing, truly! I'm so glad that you both have stood together as husband and wife for so long! Fantastic!” another added.
“Happy Anniversary, President Trump and Flotus Melania. We wish you many more years of love and happiness!”
