President William Ruto concluded his six-day development tour of the Western region on Friday, January 24.
The President's tour began with the launch of the first-ever sugarcane farmers' bonus at the Mumias Sugar company on Monday.
The Head of State issued Sh150 million in bonuses to the farmers as part of the Kenya Kwanza administration's initiative to revitalise the sugar industry.
The President also inspected the ongoing construction of the 220-unit Lurambi Affordable Housing Project and launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project.
The power project is expected to connect more than 35,000 households in Kakamega county to the grid.
He launched a similar project in Misikhu, Bungoma county, which will connect more than 28,000 households to electricity.
The President also commissioned the Kijavi Village Electrification Project in Busia, which will connect over 20,000 households in the county.
Still in Busia, Ruto inspected the Nasewa Export Processing Zone Authority, which is expected to create more than 50,000 jobs for residents.
He also inspected the Busia County Aggregation and Industrial Park, launched the Bumala Modern Market and presided over the groundbreaking of the Alupe Dam Water Supply Project.
The Bumala Modern Market is one of the 11 modern markets to be constructed in Busia county while the Alupe Dam Water Supply Project aims to provide clean water to up to 100,000 people.
Ruto also launched the Sh130 million project for the extension of a secondary dyke for the River Nzoia flood control project and broke ground for the construction of a tuition block for St Anne’s Bunyala Girls Secondary School and St Joseph’s Busagwa Primary School.
In Misikhu, Bungoma county, the President launched the Last Mile Connectivity Programme to connect more than 28,000 households to electricity and laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Bungoma Modern Market.
Ruto also launched the construction of a modern market in Luanda, Vihiga county, that will accommodate 2,000 traders, and laid the foundation stone for the construction of Khwisero Mother-Child Level IV Hospital.
The President left the Western Kenya region with a promise that the government will build 15 new markets in Kakamega county to empower businesses in the region.
