A minor has died in a tragic accident in Mlolongo, Machakos county.
The 3–year–old boy died on the spot after he was crashed by a lorry during the accident.
The incident occurred late Friday evening.
It was reported to the Athi River police station as a fatal traffic road accident incident report shortly after it happened.
A senior traffic cop confirmed the incident.
“The boy died on the spot after he was hit by the said motor vehicle,” the cop said.
He, however, requested anonymity since he isn't authorized to speak to the press.
Two other people including an expectant woman sustained injuries when the truck ferrying construction bricks knocked them down.
Eyewitnesses said the motor vehicle that was moving from Phase 3 towards Gossip direction lost control leading to the accident.
“The lorry lost control mid-way while it was climbing the hill and rolled backwards,” an eye-witness told the Star on Saturday.
It’s said the deceased was in the company of his father when the incident happened.
The motor vehicle also destroyed a kiosk and injured its owner after it rammed into it.
Traffic officers responded to the incident and cleared the scene.
Police removed the body to Shalom community hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
The injured were rushed to the same hospital for medication.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident.
A report by NTSA revealed that last year's road carnage was the bloodiest in history, with the recent festive season claiming the highest toll.
According to NTSA, close to 5,000 people died in road accidents - about 500 more fatalities than in 2023.
NTSA said some 470 Kenyans died in December alone a 10 per cent increase from 2023.
