ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has said that the one thing he regrets is getting into politics.

According to Kabogo, it is this decision he made in 2002 that has seen him get accused of being a drug baron.

He said many times, he has questioned himself on why he joined politics when he has never lacked in his life.

Kabogo said all he has gotten out of it is accusations and insults, which follow him to this day.

“Sometimes I regret getting into politics. Sometimes I look and say other people go to work to feed their children. I have never lacked that food. What did I come to do here? You get insulted, you get accused and blamed. This drugs story came because of politics,” he said on Monday during an interview on Citizen TV.

Kabogo explained that when he joined politics as a young man, he owned a helicopter that he used to campaign and many people did not believe a person his age could afford one.

According to Kabogo, some people then claimed it was because he sold drugs that was the reason he had so much money.

“In August 2002, I decided during the Uhuru time that it was our time to govern and take Kenya with our energy. I came from Mombasa, I didn't know this thing was there, I was shown the Mlolongo system. A very long cue you could not see the end. I was told I had defeated a cue of nine people. That was the beginning and it was a warning," the CS said.

“As I was hoping from one place to another in a helicopter because I owned one as a young man, they said how can someone this young own a helicopter? This is money from drugs."

Kabogo added that while the internet never forgets, he has never been close to or associated with any drug baron.

“People just speak and the internet never forgets but there's nowhere that I have ever been close to even being associated with anyone who does,” he added.
