A man has been lynched for allegedly attempting to kill his uncle in Kaloleni, Machakos county.
Machakos county police commander Patrick Lobolia said the man was subjected to mob injustice after he reportedly hacked the uncle in the Kaloleni area within the Machakos subcounty on Wednesday.
Irate members of the public caught up with him before the issue went out of hand.
“The deceased was subjected to mob injustice after he attempted to kill the uncle,” Lobolia said.
Lobelia spoke to the Star on the phone on Thursday.
The uncle was rushed to a hospital while the deceased’s remains were moved to the mortuary.
The incident happened barely a week after another man was lynched in a similar incident by irate members of the public at the neighbouring Kiumoni village in Ngelani location within the same subcounty last Friday.
The 30–year–old man was killed after he allegedly murdered his biological mother under unclear circumstances.
It’s said the man later reported to his uncles that he had killed the mother.
The incident angered locals who expressed their rage by subjecting him to mob injustice.
“Both the attackers were subjected to mob injustice in the two different incidents,” Lobolia said.
Lobolia condemned the residents for taking the law into their own hands.
He said residents shouldn’t pay back by lynching those who have committed crimes since two wrongs don’t make a right.
“People shouldn’t take the law into their own hands by killing others. People shouldn’t provoke mob injustice either, be disciplined and abide by the rule of law,” Lobolia said.
He said all Kenyans must follow the law and report suspected criminal elements in the society before crime is committed to avert such incidents.
“People should stop killing parents’ it could be under the influence of drugs. The public should pass information on those involved in narcotics trade and consumption wherever they are across the county and the country in its extension,” Lobolia said.
Lobolia said the public should not take the law into their own hands.
He said they should instead either report suspects to relevant authorities including the police or effect public arrests and surrender them to the police.
“We have police stations, posts and patrol bases everywhere across Machakos county. Take the suspects to the police stations, posts or patrol bases for necessary actions instead of killing suspects,” Lobolia said.
