Dr Aggrey Boys' High School bus when it got into an accident.
Education
Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has mourned the four students from Dr Aggrey Boys' High School who lost their lives in a road accident on Saturday.
Ogamba expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, which occurred along the Wundanyi-Mwatate Road, claiming six lives.
“The six included four students from Dr. Aggrey Boys’ High School. On my behalf and that of the Ministry of Education, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and relatives of the deceased. We pray that God grants them strength and fortitude during this difficult time.”
He also wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
“May the souls of the
departed rest in eternal peace,” the CS added in a statement on Sunday.
The
accident occurred in the Josa area on the Wundanyi-Mwatate Road when the
minibus carrying the students suffered brake failure and crashed at the
notorious Josa bend.
The
students were returning home after a second fire incident at their school,
which led the administration to close the institution and send students home.
In addition
to the four students, the driver of the minibus and a parent who had gone to
pick up their child also lost their lives.
Survivors
were rushed to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi for treatment, while others were
taken to St. Joseph Mission Hospital.
Following
the fire incident earlier that day, Dr Aggrey Boys' High School was closed
indefinitely, and all students were sent home.
The
inferno, which broke out just two days after another dormitory fire on Thursday
night, sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky as alarms rang across
the school.
The cause
of the fires remains unknown. However, quick action by students, the local
community, and the county fire department helped contain the flames before they
could spread further.
Despite the chaos, all students were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
