The German Embassy in Nairobi has warned Kenyans to be careful not to fall prey to fraudulent persons under the guise of getting jobs in Germany.
In a statement, the embassy said its visa section has been most affected by fraudulent cases as a result of Kenyans engaging rogue recruitment agencies.
It urged those working with recruitment agencies to adhere to the advice given by the embassy.
“Looking for a job in Germany? Beware of rogue recruiters and fake job offers! Our visa section has seen more fraudulent cases. Please observe our advice if and when dealing with recruitment agencies to check if these are following the ethical standards established by IOM,” a statement by the embassy reads.
It further encouraged Kenyan citizens seeking jobs abroad to always apply for their work visas by themselves, insisting that the Embassy does not have any approved recruiters or agencies.
The German embassy added that Kenyans must always verify any job offers they receive and also make direct contact with the companies to confirm if they actually exist.
It added that most of the fees are also covered by the hiring companies in Germany if the job is genuine.
“Employers should cover recruitment costs, not you.
“Job information is free; find opportunities at www.make-it-in-germany.com.”
This comes a day after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kenya said that it continues to receive complaints of Kenyans being conned while applying for visas.
The ministry insisted that those planning to travel must apply for the correct visas from the provided official websites.
“The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs continues to receive complaints from citizens who have been defrauded while applying for travel visas to various countries.
“It is important that persons seeking to travel to different destinations apply for the correct visas as provided on the official websites of the respective countries. Visa application is a personal responsibility that does not require the approval of agents or organisations,” the ministry said in a statement.
It further encouraged Kenyans seeking employment in various destinations on the need for due diligence before embarking on any travel arrangements.
