Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that he will not support another presidential candidate, insisting it is now time for others to step aside for him.

The former Vice President emphasized that he has made significant sacrifices in the past, having stepped down for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga three times.

Speaking to Mulembe Nation radio stations on Thursday, Kalonzo asserted that he is the strongest candidate to defeat President William Ruto in 2027.

“I have waited for 20 years. There comes a time when even the world acknowledges that it is your time,” he said.

“The moment has come for others to pave the way for me so we can save this country.”

Kalonzo previously backed Raila’s presidential bids in 2013, 2017, and 2022.

He ran for the presidency in 2007 but lost to Mwai Kibaki before being appointed Vice President in the Grand Coalition Government.

Defending his past decisions to step down for Raila, Kalonzo explained that they were not made lightly but after deep reflection and consultations.

“Many have asked why I kept stepping aside. It wasn’t random—it was based on dialogue and careful analysis of potential outcomes,” he said.

“I have stepped down for Raila Odinga for 15 years.”

Kalonzo also recalled withdrawing from the race in 2002 to support Mwai Kibaki as the NARC presidential candidate.

“Even before Raila stood at Uhuru Park and declared ‘Kibaki Tosha,’ I was already prepared to step down because I had made my decision,” he stated.

Kalonzo’s remarks could disrupt opposition efforts to form a united coalition and field a single candidate against Ruto in 2027.

He is currently working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa to build a coalition to challenge Ruto.

The group has also indicated that it will include former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.

The team has insisted that it hopes to field a joint candidate.
