Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has commended President William Ruto for his efforts to unite the country.
Speaking in Wajir, Kindiki said the vision of a united and prosperous Kenya has been delayed for many years but that will no longer be the case.
“Our vision and destiny as a united and prosperous nation has been delayed for a long time. We thank our President William Ruto for fast-tracking and expediting the transformation of our country… Thank you President Ruto for uniting our country,” the DP said on Wednesday.
He noted that the North Eastern region has particularly been lagging development-wise because of bad roads and inadequate electricity connection.
Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza has started tarmacking critical roads that connect the North Eastern region.
He added that the region is also getting connected to the grid to be able to get the much-needed transformation and growth just like other parts of Kenya.
“Wajir County and Northern Kenya have been left behind in development because of bad roads, poor infrastructure and inadequate electricity connection and many people have suffered trying to access government services," he said.
“The tarmacking of Isiolo-Mandera Road will go a long way in transforming the economy of Northern Kenya. The inclusion of Wajir in the national grid will also transform the county and Northern Kenya.”
He further termed President William Ruto’s decision to remove vetting of National Identity Card applicants in the region a historic call by the Head of State.
“Today's presidential proclamation to remove hindrances to the acquisition of the national ID and other identity documents for the people of Wajir and Northern Kenya is historic,” Kindiki said.
Ruto on Wednesday signed the Presidential Proclamation on Registration and Issuance of IDs.
"We want the people of Northern Kenya to feel equal to the rest of the country."
Present were Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, CS Aden Duale, Governors Ahmed Abdullah Mohamed (Wajir), Mohamad Adan Khalif (Mandera), and Nathif Jama Adam (Garissa), among other leaders.
