Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sustained his consultation meetings with leaders from all walks of life as the unveiling of his political party draws closer.
Gachagua postponed the unveiling of his political vehicle from the initial date of February 2, citing the need for further consultations.
He said he will on Sunday make public his interim report about the direction the Mt Kenya region will take “and also ask you for more time to enable me to continue listening to more views.”
In keeping with this request, Gachagua said he met with former Cabinet Secretary Cecily Kariuki at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri county Friday evening.
Karikuki served in several cabinet portfolios under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, including in the Health, Water, and Public Service dockets.
“We had an engaging discussion on various issues affecting our nation, and I got an opportunity to tap into her vast experience on governance issues,” Gachagua said.
“Sicily, who is also a prominent leader from Nyandarua county, also shared with me her thoughts on matters pertaining to this great county that I consider my second home,” he added.
Gachagua said the former CS gifted him her memoirs ‘Breaking The Illusions’ during the visit in which she was accompanied by her husband Kariuki Chege and a few friends.
“The consultations continue,” he said.

The former DP retreated to his rural home in Wamunyoro shortly after he was impeached on October 17, 2024, and has been meeting leaders from across the country as he consolidates his bases in an anticipated comeback into national politics.
The impending unveiling of his own political party is seen as the grand scheme to challenge his former boss, President William Ruto, at the 2027 general elections even as he fights in courts to overturn his impeachment.
Speaking on January 27 during the launch of the new DAP-Kenya party headquarters in Karen, Nairobi, Gachagua said his new party will shake Kenya's political landscape and reduce some parties to a shell.
He said the new outfit will have a national outlook but with its identity in Mt Kenya.
"The people from the mountain have said they were going for a wedding with a hired vehicle; when we got to the river, we were told to disembark. Now we are looking for our own vehicle," he said.
He said he was under immense pressure from the region to unveil the party, so much that he was having sleepless nights.
“People are impatient, and they don’t want to see anything yellow... we want to join forces with the others…and nobody should tell us we are being tribal because we are strengthening our base; you would be stupid to go to the national table before you organise your house," he said.
