Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has said that the national job recruitment programme remains suspended until further notice.

Mutua’s clarification followed reports that some people were still reporting at the recruitment stations seeking opportunities.

He said this is despite the ministry and even himself announcing the suspension.

“There are currently no other active recruitment activities under the Ministry’s mandate.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the earlier recruitment schedule, which was set to run until 20th February 2025, and to rely solely on official communication from the Ministry for any future updates,” he said.

The Cabinet Secretary, however, clarified the only recruitment that will be taking place will be in Kisumu on Friday (today) and Saturday.

He said this will be held on the sidelines of the ongoing Nyanza International Investment Conference, which targets workers from the region.

“I wish to clarify that the only ongoing recruitment exercise is the Kisumu recruitment drive, scheduled for Friday, 7th to Saturday, 8th February 2025, on the sidelines of the Nyanza Investment Conference, targeting job seekers from Nyanza counties.”

Mutua’s clarification comes over two months after the government announced that the programme had been suspended.

The Labour CS said the break was to allow the government to take stock of the progress made so far.

The exercise, which started on November 20 in Machakos County, had so far covered six counties.

"We are going to take a small break from continuing with the recruitment process so that we can do a bit of stock-taking, a bit of reorganisation of the processes from what we have learnt and also be able to process what we have gotten now so that people can go oversees," Mutua said.

The exercise was to head to Kakamega County next but it was suspended.

Mutua attributed this to a human resource issue saying the same agents involved in the recruitment were the same ones needed to review the process.

The review process, he said, involves ensuring successful candidates registered have all their documentation in order.
