Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially declared that he has severed ties with President William Ruto's UDA party.

In an interview Sunday night, Gachagua expressed regret over the decision to enter the 2022 election under the banner of a party that was not their own, citing the dissatisfaction of the people they represent.

"Our people are regretting that we went to the last election without our own party," he said.

"Never again will the region go to election without a party."

Speaking candidly about the discontent that had surfaced after the election, the former Mathira MP was clear that as a region they would never repeat such a mistake.

"This will never happen again, come rain come sunshine," he said.

Without revealing more details, Gachagua announced that he has formed a new party and currently building it.

The new party, he said, would represent their interests and give them more autonomy, free from the constraints and disappointments they faced within the UDA.

He apologised for asking the people from Mt Kenya to support President Ruto in the last election.

"Please forgive me People go wrong," he said.

According to Gachagua, the clergy were even convinced and also supported Ruto, "so who am I?"

"We believe that all people from across Kenya are supporting our course," he added.

Gachagua's Wamunyoro residence has been a beehive of activities since he was impeached last October.

Several politicians have been trooping to his rural home in the Mathira constituency to seek his blessings ahead of the 2027 polls.

He is laying the groundwork for the upcoming General Elections.

The former DP's allies have confirmed that plans to unveil the political vehicle are complete as Gachagua seeks to affirm his influence in national politics.

He also wants to consolidate his Mount Kenya heartland, which has become furiously restive since his removal from office.
