The week saw Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu ordered to pay a Sh53.5 million fine or spend 12 years in prison.

The former governor was found guilty of corruption-related charges regarding Sh588 million roads tender.

As this happened, Kenyans turned out in large numbers to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Waititu’s sentencing

Waititu was ordered to pay a Sh53.5 million fine or spend 12 years in prison after being found guilty of corruption-related charges.

His wife Susan Wangari was ordered to pay Sh500,000 or spend one year behind bars.

The convicts were barred from holding any public office for the next ten years.

Waititu, his wife and other county officials were charged on July 29, 2019, with the corruption case.

Valentine’s Day

Kenyans turned out in large numbers to ensure their partners felt appreciated during Valentine's Day.

They bought flowers and gifts to mark the day.

Various urban centres were adorned with roses, lilies and a variety of other flowers.

At the market, hawkers were beaming with smiles as the day's celebrations brought them financial windfall.

Many lovers were seen stopping to pose for photos, proudly displaying their floral gifts.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement, as couples and friends came together to celebrate the spirit of love.

Valentine’s Day, a celebration whose origins remain steeped in mystery, is observed annually on February 14.

Kenya Kwanza declared the majority

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo and his Suna East counterpart Junet Mohamed lead Azimio MPs out of Parliament after Speaker Moses Wetang'ula declared Kenya Kwanza the majority side on February 12, 2025. /ENOS TECHE

Azimio MPs staged a walkout after Speaker of the National Moses Wetang’ula declared Kenya Kwanza Majority side in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Led by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, the lawmakers said they don't agree with the Speaker's verdict.

Junet further alleged that there were some contradictions in the Speaker's ruling.

This followed a debate on who holds the majority and minority offices in the National Assembly.

The Speaker said that Azimio has 154 members of Parliament while Kenya Kwanza has 165 in the August House.

Kenya Police FC Gala

It was pomp and colour as various dignitaries converged in Nairobi on Wednesday for a Gala dinner in honour of the Kenya Police Football Club.

The Gala dinner was dedicated to celebrating the club's achievements and setting a bold vision for the future.

The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja joined the club at the gala dinner held at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

Among some of the distinguished guests present included the club’s patron Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

Presidential breakfast

President William Ruto on Friday attended a presidential breakfast in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, was about establishing the Africa Credit Rating Agency. 

Some of the presidents present included Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, Taye Atske of Ethiopia and Hakinde Hichelemaof Zambia.
